Fuel Pump Connections-71 280se

I need advice to connect the fuel lines to the fuel pump. Currently, the return line from the engine has a tee before entering the tank. When I removed the line from the tee it was attached to the bleed screw fitting. Is this correct? It seems to me that the return line should go back to the tank only--- with the bleed screw fitting remaining for the purpose of bleeding the pump exclusively.
Thanks for your help.......

The T was a modification when someone changed the pump to the newer short pump style..it is there for circulation so that you do not get vapor lock problems, but most guys do not use the T....
