'77 450SL No Start

Sure could use some assistance. Here's what I know.

Car was driving normally, died and no restart.

Engine cranks normally, no spit or sputter, no start.
Fuel pressure and volume at fuel distributor normal.
Ignition delivering good spark to plugs.
New distributor cap, rotor, wires, and plugs.
New fuel pump.
Cold start valve sprays.
What other info do you need for diagnosis?

Thanks for your help.

I am not real familiar with gas engines but how many miles and when was the last time the timing chains were checked/replaced?

It's at about 80,000 miles. I got the car recently and have found no mention of timing chain replacement in the maintenance logs. Cams are turning while cranking.

How did you check for fuel pressure?

Is the pump running while you crank the starter?

Are the plugs wet or dry?

dump some gas in the intake and see if it sputters. If not then check the compression.

Hello,

If you have air, fuel, spark on time and compression, the engine will run. Good advice on checking with starting fluid. Check to see if the spark is on time (going to the right cylinder when it is on its compression stroke). Air is almost a given. A quick compression check will tell you if the timing chain or distributor jumped!

Did you check the ballist resistors? there are 2 of them on the left fender I think. They look like a long rectangular prism and have wires connected at both ends. The mercedes engine manual should have the resistance listed. I had one go out once and it would not start until I replaced the bad one.
Good luck,
Lee
