I would appreciate some first hand insight from one of you. I just broke apart my 74 450SL intake manifold halves to replace the seals. The old seals have a height of 1" with the same outside diameter top to bottom. After years of being assembled the manifold compression seal, on the ID, have a height of about 0.2". The replacement seals are 3/4" and have an ID compression seal height close to twice that of the old part. Also, the replacements seals have a separate OD band that was assembled (not molded) onto the part around the middle, a little hard to describe (you can see the pictorial on this site's Buy Parts section by looking up p/n A8041-44826).
The halves went together ok (after holding my tongue just right!) and I see no bulging of any seal. I have never replaced a set of these and do not know what to expect (and do not want to find out something was wrong when the engine vacuum is bad). Does what I am describing the new seal looks like/measures sound correct to any of you folks who have replaced seals in this series motor in the recent past?
Thanks, Hal
