Intake/Exhaust Manifold Gasket-M130

I am gearing up to change the leaking Intake/Exhaust Manifold gasket in my 280se. I can see that there is quite a bit of work to change a simple gasket and so am asking for advice on this procedure and any suggestions related to it's removal and replacement. There is an air conditioning system-I believe a York compressor provides the pressure.
Thanks,
MBG

I'll take a shot at this ...

You need to remove the AC compressor and set it aside. IIRC, you remove the compressor and the bracket together.

Then get all the linkage stuff out of the way, and remove all of the nuts and maybe one bolt that hold the manifolds to the head. Then see if you can pull the maniflolds away from the head enough to clear the studs.

If you can't clear the studs, then you will have to unbolt the exhaust manifolds from the down pipes and either drop the exhaust down or raise the engine to get clearance from the exhaust pipes.

Not a fun job.

Thanks. I can see it's going to be fun.
Would it be easier to remove the exhaust system first working back to the manifold?
I have read in previous posts that it is critical to leave the linkages for the injector pump/throttle assembly the way they are removed. Since I am not intending to renew these I will leave them as they are.
I noticed that the idler pulley is not running true. Is the bearing replaceable?
The air conditioner was marginally putting out cold air when operating. I am thinking of replacing the compressor, lines, etc.. while everything is torn down.
