1967 - 250S ...Carb Rebuild time.....HELP!!!
OK, I have my box of gaskets, and little pieces and parts to rebuild my carbs on my 250S. I have a book on it too, but the book is vague. Anyone have directions on how to do this? I don't want to bust anything trying to get it off, and on. Seems like the top is STUCK.....on the rear carb. DO I PRY HARD TO GET IT OFF? Am I missing a bolt somewhere? Is the gasket glued on from the factory? Ok..anyway....if anyone can help please do. Thanks.

Hello,
The tops do get stuck, however there is a hidden screw down in the center threaded hole. This is the threaded hole that the air cleaner bolt threads into. You will find the hidden screw at the bottom of the hole. In addition the small linkage rod from the choke flap will need to be unhooked before the cover can be removed. |

Thanks Ja. I'm still working on it, and haven't gotten very far today. Is there a service manual somewhere on these? thank you.

wow, thanks you guys are great. update: I got 1 carb done. All rebuilt, and I put it back on the car. New accelterator pump. Not sure I need 1, but I had it so I replaced it anyway. The spring was a little weak, but not too bad.
When I took out the old section of float bowl there was 1/4 inch a brown rusty crud in the bowl. The holes had to be plugged up. Anyway, I blew up the holes, soak the carb in carb cleaner, and WALLA!! It runs without hesitation now!! It needs the idle adjusted now, but it works. I'm getting ready to start on number 2 carb soon. Pretty easy so far. 8 screws on top, and 1 in the middle, and loosen up the Choke control. Then you can pop off layer 1. Layer 2 has 3 screws, and it pops right off. That's where the float bowls are. Underneath is all the jets, and orifaces that need to be cleaned out. I gave them a good blowing out with compressed air. The needle jet was on the bottom, but that's about it. The carb kit is FULL of extra gaskets, and stuff you really don't need. Dam I'm excited. This thing should be on the road soon. Thanks for everyones help.. RIDE ON!! 1967 - 250S - 4 Door Sedan |

The dreaded brown crud in the bowls seems to be a common ailment on this board. It plugged up my carbs as well, both Zeniths and Webers before I had the gas tank removed and cleaned.

After rebuild balancing / synchronization
The next challenge ....... |

Ok, I did both carbs. Both were full of crud. The front carb had a little less crud than the back carb, but it still had crud. Balancing / syncronizing!! AHHHHH MORE STUFF!! : ) I'll get to that soon. The entire job of rebuilding isn't too bad, but I can see you have to know your stuff like which screw does what, and where or you can get these carbs out of wack pretty quick, so back to the books. Thanks for your help....and I'll be back when I get stumped again : )
