Are those floating calipers on the front? I hate those, and I hate bleeding brakes. I refuse to even try and bleed an ABS car.

I still wish to claim the masochism trophy though... My new 123's ACC works only on defrost (which blows cold) and only if you give the blower a good whack. Also I think the brake booster may be bad. I demand more pictures of the Jensen as well. Did you catch that bit on Top Gear where they did "The Interceptors?" it was pretty funny.

No, those are the regular 2 piston setup. I have floating calipers on my E420, they are pretty easy.

Those climate control servos are a huge pain in the rear. My first 6.9 would blow constant hot and drain the battery because the servo wont park. I fixed it before I sold it. I should have done it sooner.

I'll get the interceptor out soon and see what I have.

I have bled the ABS on my Charger after painting my calipers and it was a pain in the rear end. It took probably a full quart to get all the air out. I used a vac bleeder AND I pumped the pedal while the vac was pulling on the bleeders.

Those vac bleeders suck. Use the Motive Power bleeder for bleeding.

spent the nice morning picking up a 500SEC (hong kong version with hi comp ece engine) out in the country.
mechanically fine but with a few paint problems .No rust and a good interior in a unusual blue leather.
pretty good buying at $350 .
The seller offered us a really tidy 420SEl and a written off 380SE for free.... oh to have more space!!!!! both cars have really nice interiors including good dash's etc.

That's not bad for $350!

Managed to get the XJ12 wiring kind of back together again as they were gnawed away by rats. Once everything was connected, we could get a spark from the plug wires.

Next, removed the D-jetronic fuel pump which was seized, took it apart and cleaned it. There was lots of varnish but after pumping a can of carb cleaner through it, we could get to spin.

With the state of the fuel pump, the tanks are going to be shot and will also need cleaning. For now, we used a Jerry can to feed the system.

At first try, we got a leak at the the fuel rails. The hoses were as hard as rock so we got new hoses and proper fuel injection clamps and put them on.

Unfortunately we ran out of time so to be continued.

I guess I'll add my 2 cents to this thread....

Changed the injection pump diaphragm on my 115 and hope it is the sole source of my smoke troubles. Not a bad job, kind of tedious getting the new gasket in place. I was disturbed to find gritty sludge inside the IP(look here), no idea what to think of it. The car runs really strong but it would seem the IP has ground something up.

Then I adjusted the valves just to be certain that wasn't contributing to my smoke.

Smoke is better but still there, perhaps that is just life with a 240D?

Al, one last task tonight I am going to join your /8 forum, I'd like to see it grow.

Have you tried doing a diesel purge yet? it does wonders because it cleans all the deposits out the injector nozzles .These depositis cause smoke because the spray pattern is compromised. It needs to be a fine mist in a cone shape but if there are lumps of carbon in the combustion chamber it makes them dribble. this dribble will not ignite properly and the result is smoke.
Smoke is also a symptom of a lack of air . Make sure the throttle and the pump are both reaching full position together.
On a gasoline injection system you get smoke if the throttle balls are worn and the same thing happens to the 616 engine like yours.
Finally, replace the air filter element if it has the paper style. if it's an oil bath type ,give it a good wash and oil change. A blocked filter will make it smoke too.

Rebuilt my MG V8's HIF6 SU carburettors this afternoon. New choke o-rings plus seals and while I was at it I replaced the shaft seals too. All seals were hard as a rock, so it was definitely needed. Bushings and shafts seemed fine. I had renewed jets and needles a while ago so I left that alone. Put it all back in the car, and car fired right up and purred like it had not done in a long time. I installed a new Petronix distributor and coil a month ago (instead of a Lucas electronic system that I had my misgivings about), but it ran still rough. Clearly the carbs where a problem area. Now the combination of new distributor, coil and overhauled carbs seems to have done the trick.

Still need to wash (it is VERY dusty) and test drive the car, but I ran out of time. I added a picture of the carbs and engine bay with everything back together again. You can't get the carbs off without removing the intake manifold. The manifold to block gasket is NLA so orange liquid gasket was used (a bit too abundantly). Ignore the dust...

Not much done car wise as the weather was horrible today in the sense that it was went and windy rather then blazing hot.

I found a pair of mission speakers and a Yamaha amp for sale in the local CL so I went to look at it. I'm a big fan of missions and you don't see them often here. I picked them up and the buyer also threw in a sub woofer, another set of Pioneer bookshelf speakers and a couple of surround speakers. It was a nice bonus because I have a spare TEAC amp laying around that I can use along with speakers for the shop.

I listed and sold my red XJ5.3C. My intention was to either convert it back to a V12 or put a bigger American V8 in it.

With the Jensen, the other XJ12C and the XJ12L, It was not necessary.

Next on the chopping block is my 69 VW bug. This car is practically a show car. The paint is beautiful, the engine was rebuilt and the interior is new. I always wanted a bug but after driving it, I realized I like big cars with large engines. I must be getting lazy in my old age
