appreciation for "old" posts
Reverse gear in my '77 240D got worse and worse. (I am sure some will see where this is leading.) Recently, I have been looking for parking spaces with a downhill slope so I could back out at idle.
I did a Google search yesterday evening and found http://tinyurl.com/3zteub -- which was of course the fix. Had to wait until today to do the maintenance -- but 15 minutes after dragging out the wheel ramps, I had a better reverse gear than I'd had the entire time I've owned this car (5+ years). I now have to change my driving habits, stepping on the brake when I shift into reverse rather than shifting and waiting (had been sort of like waiting for the glow plugs to do their thing). ... The B3 adjustment was backed out (only finger tight) a full six turns. Thanks for whoever posted that link w/ pics. That post was sent in 2006, and it is still helped me in 2008. I like my 240D again. As an aside, I am very active on a Benz list out of Oklahoma -- some will know the list to which I refer -- and still had to pop over here to get the solution (complete with nice pics of the procedure). Folks on the Oklahoma list could tell me what the problem was but no one was able to offer a "where to find the bolt" answer. Thanks. Don Iowa |
