Stalling when motor is hot

I have a 76 450SL and it starts and runs well. When I turn off the motor and restart it it stalls. I have checked the vacuum lines and they seem to be fine. Has anyone had this problem. Any feed back will be great.

Will the engine run if you give it gas? or does it stop completely?

What speed is the engine idling at? . Idle speed when hot is normally 700RPM. The idle 'Air by pass' may possibly be blocked and need cleaning or replacing.
When were the plugs, plug leads ,distributor cap and rotor last changed?

Ok,thats good.Did they change the fuel filter?. It's under the car beside the back axle.
Idle 1000 RPM in nuetral?. In drive ,with air con running it should be around 700RPM.
Air by pass is in the front of the engine intake manifold where there is a large while(ish) plastic slotted head screw. this is the adjustor for idle speed.
If it's idling at 1000 RPM when hot,it's not a by pass problem.

Was the ignition timing checked?
Before doing anythng else I would suggest you change the fuel filter and change the ignition coil. If it's the original, which it probably is,it's beyond it's "useby date".

I changed the fuel filter already. I have not chaged the ignition coil yet but will change it ASAP. I will start there and will let you know if it solves the problem. Thanks
