1956 180 Ponton Parts Value?
I just found a '56 180 in a junkyard and was looking into what parts are worth getting off it before it gets crushed and maybe a quick value of some stuff. I'll start off by saying I'm not a Mercedes guy and I tried searching eBay and the internet (which is how I found this site) but could not find anything real helpful. I have no idea which parts are hard to find, not reproduced, etc. so any help is appreciated.
I did buy the complete Blaupunkt Hamburg radio with dash pod, interior coat hooks/grab handles, rear door ashtrays, day/night rear view mirror, dash clock and the chrome wiper arms. Overall the car is rusty but still has lots of parts on it. I think it was a 4 cylinder with a single Solex carb. Any help is appreciated. |

These 180s are probably the least desireable '50s Mercedes from a restoration standpoint, but that said, they aren't exactly common anymore, and there are people out there that appreciate their '50s charm and utilitarian simplicity.
You might consider saving any chrome trim, bumpers, etc that are still in good shape, but as Florida is a near-tropical region, practically surrounded by salt-water, if the car is very rusty, chances are the chrome is shot too. Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks for writing Mark. Most of the exterior chrome was in bad shape since it is a Florida car. I'll be posting up the parts I have in the for sale section this week.

Radio and carb
I know the Radio would be worth getting. I cannot remember if this car had knee-action shocks or not, but if they are not totally rusted out they would be worth something.
The carb would be good to get as well unless it is frozen up. The taillights, too, might be worth something. Look in the trunk or floors and see if there are any tools from that ear. Pooka |
