My 1976 450sl wont start

i drove it in a dry garage 5 years ago and pulled the motor to due a timing chain & oil pump & seal the motor, now its back in the car and wont start, with freash gas, not old gas, it runs sometimes for 10 to 15 seconds steady, about 2000 rpm, i took apart the fuel distributor it was very clean inside, no rust, i changed the distributor & box from my other 450 no change, it seems like the plugs are not firing, if you have any ideas can you let me know, thanks you rich

Sounds like you are running out of fuel. Can you do a volume test off the fuel return line? Lots of posts on this, try a Search.

I did the fuel test, with a cis gage, all the rite bars or presures are there, i am getting fuel up there, it seems like there is no spark, there is spark , im not sure how much spark or how many times it should be firing, the plugs keep getting black, so i keep cleaning them, this seems to be a problem because i here it alot, other mercedes seem to have the same issue, so i dont feel so bad, thanks rich

The timing is easy to check. Put a light on #1 (right front) and see where the timing is while cranking. If you don't have a light, bring #1 up to TDC on the compression stroke and verify that the rotor is pointing at the mark on the distributor housing. Be sure your plug wires are correct according to the firing order.

But if it runs and stops, then it is getting spark, and fuel for a while. The pressure check and volume check are not the same. You can have good pressure but run out of fuel.

Djet? Sounds like the MAP sensor isn't connected.
