tune-up sequence

It has been so long since I did a tune-up on an old gas Mercedes that I want to ask re my 1959 M-B 220S ponton. (1) When changing the points and setting by dwell, am I right that I set the dwell as close to the maximum spec that I can (hence points at narrowest end of spec range) or vice versa? (2) Do I do the timing via strobe light before or after installing/setting the new points?

You might try putting an electronic ignition in - they are less than $100 and then you have NO points, NO dwell... Crane Fireball X700 go to www.cranecams.com. Email me (bstreep@satx.rr.com) and I'll send you the article I put together for my 190SL (similar setup, but you have a 6 cyl).

Dwell spec

If the dwell spec is 28 to 32 set it at 28. This will give you the longest life before resetting/replacing. If your in the range it will be fine. Remember to check your timing after you set the points.
