OEM light bulbs?

I have always replaced my Mercedess bulbs with OEM type that I normally pick up at the dealer. But I wonder....? Is using OEM bulbs really necessary?

Over the last 30 years I have heard a lot of stories about Mercedes light bulbs and how OEM should always be used, but I am not electircal enough to understand why.

The cost for them is not that much more than something you might pick up at any parts place, but are they worth it?
