67 250s suspension upgrades

Do you guys have any suggestions on possible suspension upgrades on this car. I am thinking about smoothing the ride out. What do you guys suggest in terms of shocks springs etc?

Replace all the bushings in the front and rear suspension. Get a set of Bilstein shocks. Replace both front subframe mounts and the rear axle mount bushing in the trunk.

There are two large bushings located in the lateral strut at the top middle part of the rear rear axle. There is also a long bushing for the swing axle joint.

The front and rear suspension also have grease joints that need periodic greasing. There are also rubber sealing rings on each joint. I use Mobil 1 synthetic grease on my 220S, same chassis.

Your car will ride and drive perfectly, just as the engineers at Mercedes intended.

Thanks Warren, do you have any idea what all this should cost me? Where should look to get all these parts? Will most likely need a pro to put this stuff in because will need a lift.

Peter, you're welcome. I would suggest looking at the SL113 web site.

http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php

and the suspension forum,

http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?board=16.0

and Don't worry, these SL models use the same front and rear suspension, driveshaft, engine, trans, and many other parts. I use the forums as well, they are a good resource.

Joe Alexander is also very knowlegable on these cars as well. He may post here as well.

I don't think there's anything that would require a lift, and it's all very doable if you have some finesse and talent spinning wrenches.

But you definately don't need to mod anything, or do any upgrades. Just put it right back as it was originally built and run a quality set of the tallest tires (185/80-13's) or 195-14's, you can get your hands on.

These cars all have a solid firm ride....like all German cars. They're not floaty or boaty at all and even the most plane-jane w110 will handle like it's on rails when pushed.
