Do not think the 15mpg estimate is correct. I had a '70 for ten years and generally got about 10-11 in town and 14-15 mpg on the road. So avg cannot be 15 unless absence of the AC has something to do with it. Wonder how the dash looks under the cover. But very nice car. Mine looked this good when sold in 1984.

The cat converter was never required on this car due to its' age, but that is a small point. I geuss the headlights were changed out in order to get the car into the US.

Being that my 88 560SL gets 16, don't see this Queen Marry doing anything close to that.

It does look like a good specimen. But it is a gas guzzler in a fuel sensitive market. I'm going to say $18K.

That is a very desirable car. Probably gets 11 miles to the gallon, a generous guess-timate since my 1973 4.5 gets about 11 mpg. But who cares about gas mileage when considering this type of car? The buyer of this type of car will probably have a stable of cars in a climate controlled garage and will drive this on Sunday when the weather is sunny.

The amount this person invested, $35,000 is probably greatly more than it would sell for now at a Barett Jackson auction. If the car was a Cabriolet, $35,000 would be justifed for restoration; but the sedans don't seem to be as desirable. He probably bought the car for between $15-20k. The completed listings search on Ebay shows 2 cars that are comparable selling for around $18k (Item number: 220321220422, Item number: 160303352901). Is the car worth $50,000.00?

Quote:
"Unlike those 6.3s that are frequently sold here on eBay for $14-$20K with restored exterior/interior, while hiding many mechanical problems inside, this car has its most important mechanical assets restored by those who only specialize in restoration of that particular model!"

He obviously loves this car. It will probably be re-listed several times as reserve-not-met bids show interest but unwillingness to substantially over-pay current market value. These cars should increase in value over time. It amazes me to see the recent value of American Muscle Cars of this same era. However, as the overall economy goes into shock from a real estate bubble, falling real estate values, job losses, the stock market value cut in half, retail sales decline, and the banking industry ending easy credit, the value of all treasure is going to suffer.

The best part of owning my 1973 is that it is paid for! I was paying $682 per month on a Honda Odyssey minivan, but sold it last year when I bought the mercedes for $5,000 on the chinese payment plan (one lump sum). The Mercedes purchase was break-even in seven months with zero depreciation. While the new Honda depreciated about $400 per month. With the help of friends that I meet on this forum, I can do repairs for the cost of parts, sweat and bloody hands which at least maintains the value and possibly increases it over time.

Wow, I was definitely in the mood to chat today... Must be Friday and close to Christmas!

I flat can't believe what used cars are going for. Basically, if you don't have green, leafy cash for a car sold by a private party, forget it. Cash is king on top of it being a buyer's market. 129's are incredibly cheap. I saw a 97 S600 2-door on Ebay, running, with no takers.

I tottaly biased,my daily is a 6.3 and I know the guy who did the work on this ebay car. At $3800 it's woefully under priced. Now is the time to buy,not sell but I am glad in a way that 6.3's are underrated.Let the 'smart money' buy US muscle cars ,Ferrari's at overinflated values ( and let them take a bath on their fashion accessory cars) ,and let true enthusiasts drive 6.3's and 6.9's .
Once you have driven a good running 6.3,it's damned hard to feel enthusiastic about any sort of "performance" car. The feeling of unending torque available at any speed is incomparable .
As for economy,at 60 mph steady driving, any well tuned 6.3 will average 20 mpg. Sure they use a lot in City driving, but who cares? most of it gets burnt teaching others not to try overtaking from the lights any way. And with oil down to $30 per bbl this morning for Texas Med Crude, who gives a damn about fuel costs?

I think you got it right on that. This car will probably bid $18K and "Reserve Not Met"

My wife will put both testicles in the vice if I bid on this.

If I was rich as heck, I'd bid on this, and probably have a 6.9 to park next to it in my climate-controlled garage (along with the Hemi Roadrunner, a 116 300SD, and maybe an old MG). But I'm not rich, so I'll have to pass and keep trying to get somebody to come up with a few hundred bucks for my W114.

A while back, my workplace had a running W108 that they were trying to sell for $749, but no takers.

Pooka

The 6.3 models all had the 4 headlight system, US or euro.

The euro version had the park/turn lights between the hi and lo beams, note front end picture.

The car also has the original Dunlop "dog bone" pattern spare.

Thumbs up Sweet !

Sadly , I'm still finding these in Pick-A-Part yards for parts , never for sale always with sun burned interior and faded paint , they get crushed for scrap after no one touches the engine .

No one ever got 20MPG's out of these cars , period .

Agreed , once you drive one , your Japanese econobox seems like a turd .

Wait ~ I hate SWMBO's pristine , low milage Toyletta Corolla anyway .

Driven one? Ever owned one?
20 mpg is easy ,at 60 mph( our max limit in the nanny state) the engine is barely working and fuel requirements are way down.
I just got back from a 780 mile round trip and managed 18mpg average and in places I hit over 120 mph demonstrating to non believers that grandads old merc is not some slow old diesel.

US gallons or Imperial gallons? you have recorded 20(US)mpg repetitively?
