Help needed 1962, 190 Headlamps...Radio... Original colors

Hello:

New to the forum.

Happy New Year to everyone....

I have just got a 1962 190 Fintail Mercedes, I got it from an older friend mostly because of all the love and great stories that have been around the car and to help my buddy a little bit, he was the 2nd owner.

I dont know a lot about Mercedes but other than the regular rust for such an old car it is in good shape, mostly complete, and with a bunch of extra old parts.

I have some parts to get and I need to know if the head lamps and the headlamps base are the same for the 1962´s 190´s all the way to the 1965´s

Also in the extras It has a Becker Europa Radio, my friend thinks this is the original radio, any ideas??

Last does anyone know the paint colors and interior color combinations?

I am thinking either:

Black With dark tan leather interior.

Silver with red leather interiors.

Red (any idea of the original red tone) and tan leather interiors..

What do you Mercedes guys think???

Lamps are the same across the years.
The radio was an option and is period correct, wonderful if it still works!

Yes,Becker Europa seems to be factory optional.(check "special equipment")
Lights-they used R2 bulbs,you may fit Halogen lights with R2(P45t) socket,if you wish.R2 used till 1968(end of production of W110`s).w115 used halogens H4,I think.

Sounds like a great car and fun project. Score on that Becker! The sound quality is fantastic and they are worth tall dollars (look on ebay). There were 2 radio sizes and your car takes the narrow-in-height version.

You can't go wrong by sticking to the classic color schemes.

Some of my favorites on the w110's is:
1) White with red interior, including red German Square Weave carpets
2) Black with red interior....
3) Silver with red or black interior....
4) Red with cream (off white) interior
5) There's a fantastic medium blue, but I haven't seen what interior color it came with, maybe a deep maroon, or an autumn tan?

Enjoy, that 190 engine with single carb is simply a pleasure, and puts out plenty of power.

Do yourself a favor and source 185/80-13 tires with white walls for it. That's the tallest 13 you can find and it's as close to the original bias ply diameter that you can currently get. If you put anything else on the car it will be so wound up on the highway, you won't enjoy it....and they are bad as it is.

Thanks a lot I got the tires already, and yes it is a very nice car, I just finished a 1955 series 2 GMC Pick, one of the rarest pick ups ever, they were only made for 3-4 months so a lot of very hard parts for it took me 10 years to finish it..

I decided not to get into any project again but I felt in love with this car and the history it carries with him.

A friend of mine in Chicago owns a beautiful 1962 convertible in a light blue stunning car... maybe that is the blue you are talking about.

What do you mean with: German Square Weave carpets?

One more question on the lights,,,, do the lamp need a special base??

The one in the drivers side of my car is missing, now I got the lamps and rings bought and should be mailed to me by monday. But I was wondering if I still need some special base for the left (german, mexican, us, driver side) Lamp?

No.It`s the headlight lens that has a LH and RH traffic version-all other details are identical on both sides(and all countries AFAIK).
The base(socket) in question is #187,right? ( A 000 826 25 82 )-it`s the same on both sides,and both Bosch and Hella(#90 293) versions have the abovementioned Mercedes-Benz part number.-spring loaded plastic socket with 58 and 31 terminal connections.(it`s on my desk now).

German Square Weave carpet is a very short, tight loop style of carpet. Comes in some fantastic old school colors, and in my opinion, really finishes off the interior in the 4 door sedans. I've done 2 white w110's that had red interiors and the owners had the red German Square Weave put in them. Gorgeous!

I've seen the light blue, sort of a powder blue. The blue I'm thinking of is a medium blue with just a hint of grey. There should be some pictures of it on that Heclflosse.nl website...........
