W108/109 front grille question

Is there supposed to be any sort of buffer/bumper between the closed grille and paintwork behind it?

I see 4 holes in the sheet metal behind however photos of other cars show nothing there. Now I'm wondering if there's supposed to be something on the backside of the grille.

Thanks!

There should be four screws holding the fender (marked red in picture) and I see there's also two small rubber stops (marked green). Picture is of my W111 but I think it is exactly the same on the W108's. Maybe someone else could confirm that?

Thanks Tomas for your reply and photo. The four screws are there but curious are the lower rubber stops, which mine never had!

124 Coupe.you should have two or four holes there. If the car has been painted at some time, just check closely because the fenders for 108-109's have those holes all the time. The buffers are available from the classic center ( same on fuel door)

W108/109 front grille question

There is a "gasket" that goes between the grille and the body that has a peel off backing for the adhesive. It's available from any MB dealer and it's only a few dollars. If you need the part number I can get it for you since I just bought one last week. Let me know.

Hi where did you order it from .
i need to source the round rubber buffer at the door frame side , The door handle rubber gaskits.
It will be helpful to know the source for odd items like these.

I ordered the part from my local Mercedes Benz dealer, Mercedes Benz of Devon (PA). Their number is 610-687-1500. The Parts Manager's name is Dale, and he has been there since 1973, so he really knows the parts for these cars. If you have the chapter number and the item number from the parts book with your car, that speeds up the process a lot. He has been very helpful finding what I thought would be obscure parts as I restore my W108 067.

I am sure that any MB dealer can get these parts for you, so check with your local dealer first so you don't have to pay shipping charges. The Mercedes Benz Classic Center is the catalyst for dealers getting these parts quickly.
