1973 W114 280 so slowwww

Hi guys

this is car I recently purchased here in Indonesia and then had engine allegedly rebuilt by local backyard "specialist".

After numerous overheating problems have been resolved and new air con unit for the hot climate find car runs very slow on highway.

Seems to be maxed out at 50 mph/80 kmh?

Is this usual for such an aged car or there is something I need to have checked out?

Something is wrong. Think in terms of; Could Mercedes have sold these cars if they ran this poorly new?

Throttle linkages maybe?

Is it shifting up to 4th?

I had one of these cars and it would not get over 40 mph. Turns out the vacumme modulator was bad and the car was not shifting out as it should.

If you do have a bad modulator, please be advised that replacing one is easy and adjusting it is somewhat of an art. As simple as it is you might want to leave this (if this is indeed the problem) to a shop that knows what it is doing.

Hopefully this is it as this is a very cheap repair.

there is a lever in the injector pump that the throttle link connects to maby its called the full stop lever but i find if the lever is up too much the car wont pull or drives slow also there is a nut behind the injector pump if that is screwed in too much the car will tend to stall and if they all don't seem to be the problem then i suggest trying injector pump timing if this is wrong the the car wont pull and runs slow
