Window glass sources?

I'm looking for a replacement window for my 1987 560 SEC and can't afford the OEM glass. However, none of the aftermarket glass companies I've checked with seem to have the glass for this model.

Somebody posted the name of a company not too long ago that carried windows for most MBs, but I can't find that thread. I think the name was Pennigtons or something like that. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

I ran across the name of the place I was looking for this afternoon. It's called Pilkington Glass, an aftermarket glass company. Anybody had any experience with their products?

Have a Pilkington windshield in my 560SL. Was in the car when I bought it. Looks like good quality to me. From what I've heard/read, they sell a top quality glass.

Also check out www.safelite.com. They are a good brand as well. Click on the Instant Quote tab at the top.

I tried safelite, but they said they did not make the glass for my car. Hopefully, Pilkington will have it.

Don, it didn't sound like the prospects for getting the rear window out of another car without breaking it were very good. I'm going to see if they can reuse the glass that's in there now. I figured I'd better have a source for a new piece in case the old one breaks.

I don't specifically know about Mercedes glass parts, but Pilkington Glass is a well-recognized quality brand all around Europe. I would definitively give them a try.

The local Pilkington dealer responded to me with a quotation of $850 to replace the rear window with one of theirs. Well, it beats the hell out of $1,900 I guess.

FWIW I would not use that brand.

The driver's window on my 300M is Pilkington. I can see waves in the glass (or the tint, not sure which). It's nowhere near OEM Chrysler quality. I have an OEM window I can't wait to pop in to replace it with once I fix the clip on it so it closes right.

That's good to know. In my case, I can't afford the OEM glass.

Keep shopping, you can lowe that price. The mark up on auto glass is huge.
