Jason, you're in for a swell time. The 1969 230/8 was my first car. Been through at least 100 mercedes since. Welcome to the club, the water is warm.

You should have a pair of zeniths, lots of threads to read.

Are you brave? with the air cleaner off, take her up at idle to 4,500 rpm and with a flashlight, look down the throats. If you're getting a lot of backfiring, don't do that.

Don't mess with the carbs until you're sure the points and timing are what they should be, which means setting the timing at 4,500 rpm.

DON'T TOUCH THE CARBS LOL Just kidding, but if it is running ok......leave it. I have zenith carbs on my 250S, and they are a bear to tune, so if it is running ok? leave it... The carbs are very touchy, and 1 thing gets out of wack..everything else does too..so don't mess with them until you have to.
