67' 250S - Front Fenders
How easy is it to take off, and replace the front fenders?? Both of mine are rusty. In addition, where can I get a set of ..used? new? non rusty replacements for a 1967- 250S. Thanks

Dave, I took mine off just to be able to clean the rear qtr panels. Easy job, just need socket tools. Fenders are bolted on horizonal plates which are bolted to the frame. Putting them back on is tricky. Don't tighten the bolts until you have all of them situated back in place.

Be advised, most of those fender bolts are screwed into blind square nuts, clipped into holes in the body and inner fender. On a rusty car, it's possible for the bolts to shear off, or for the blind-nuts to tear loose from their clips and spin. So soak them with penetraing oil for awhle and prepare to get creative removing the uncooperative ones.
Happy Motoring, Mark

To remove the fenders is easy but the other two guys missed a few important points.
!/start by removing the headlights. Do not lose the screws, they are specific screws designed for that job. 2/ Gently (!) push the rubber headlight plug looms back through the headlight buckets, 3/ Beside the radiator are two phillips head counter sunck screws, loosen them using the correct size screwdriver and penetrating oil 4/ below the bottom of the front of the fender are two 10mm bolts into the front chassis member, undo those . You may find it easier to unbolt the bumper if they are rusted tight. 5/ Open the front doors. at the top you will see on 10mm bolts, loosen that right off. 6/ Very carefullt remove the lower garnish trim from in front of the windsheild. 7/ Inside each wheel house is a steel cover panel secured in the wheel house by three bolts, sometimes 10mm sometimes 8 mm. undo those. inside the engine compartment towards the rear of the fender next to hinge assembly is a further bolt, undo that and the cover should come free. 8/ Inside this compartment on the A pillar are a further 2 x 10mm bolts. Undo those and remove any antenna that may be there. 9/ if you have central locking you will see the plastic reservoir. it can remain in place. 10/ before touching the bolts inside the engine compartment, spray plenty of penertaing oil under the wheel house on the fender bolts. let them soak for a few days. 11/ Towards the frontr of the fenders are a rubber block, screwed into place .remove that . take a few pictures from the side, you will need a reference when refitting replacement fenders . they don't fit easily and require lots of time to fit correctly. 12/ undo the inner fender bolts and slide the fender forwards to release it from the car and your done. |

Last I heard, new ones were close to a grand each. I've got a decent pair in the attic, not sure how you'd ship them, though. Jim
