69 230 heater valve
I have a 69 230 model. The heat stays on constantly. Not good even this time of year in Arizona. I found the heater control valve is bound up internally. I tried to disassemble it without success.
Are the parts still available anywhere but the dealer ??? Also looking for Mercedes star for the hood, have had no luck in salvage yards. Just wanted to thank everyone for info/links on setting up the dual carbs. The engine runs strong and power is good for a 6cyl. We are using the car daily, driving about 200 miles each day. We get lots of looks from the other drivers on the highway. Only problem is my wife is too short and cannot see over the steering wheel, no matter how we pad and adjust the seat. Too bad. Means I have to drive all the time. |

Only replacement parts are the "O" ring seals. The rest of the valve's innards are the two valve parts that rotate when you move the levers. These should come out with a bit of persuasion...they are just simple plug valves. You re-use everything except the "O" rings. If the plugs are stuck you will have to remove the screw-on levers and snap ring retainers from the valve body and insert a small piece of all-thread a few inches long into the screw hole. Place the valve in a vise, place a deep well socket over the valve so the all-thread pokes up through the socket. Place a washer over the all-thread and then put a nut on the all-thread. You have just made a small puller. You can then run nut down the all-thread and it will extract the stuck plug from the valve. Do this for each plug as needed.
Clean the guts and get new "O" rings from NAPA, re-assemble with a bit of silicone grease so the "O" rings do not deform when inserting the plugs, and you have re-built the valve. Use "O" rings just the right size; you can make the valve too tight to operate freely by using rings that are too large. IF the valve is too tight you can break the cables. 230/8 |
