W108 alternator....is there an alternative?

Can anyone advise me if the alternator of any later model would fit into the 250 engined w108?
I snapped part of the casing trying to fit the fan belt.
Opened up a real can of worms on this one.

Most guys go with the later 55A one...and one with internal Reg is preferred, but that takes a new connector.

I would move your post over to the Vintage section..

Thanx Arthur.

fitting a new connector is no hassle.
Do you know if the mounting point/bracket would match?

If you go over to the 113 site and use the search feature, there are a bunch of threads on the change.

Very good..

Another good one..., if you ever have Starter problems, here is another easy upgrade for your 250/108. Your starter is only .9HP, but the later ones were 1.4HP..so, they crank much faster and they also have a 3rd terminal on the solinoid that uses Ballast resistor by-pass circuit of the later models. So, you simply add that extra wire and bring it to the coil side of the ballast and you will then have full battery V for Crank. This get a much faster start b/c you then have the more powerful starter spinning the engine over AND a hotter spark at crank RPM... [ the problem with no ballast by-pass is the battery V drop caused by the high starter draw taxed the ignition circuit and the ign coils output..the bypass eliminates the problem , and Benz finally added that to the next model... [ way after USA cars did] ..yours may even have the new style starter b/c that is all they sell now.. if your car ever had a starter change , you got the newer HP version which comes with the solinoid with that extra by-pass terminal ...you can tell b/c the old has the HP stamped on the casing- [ .8 or .9 HP]. Many guys change the starter for a failure w/o knowing that with their new one, they now have all the electrics needed to install a ballast by-pass by simply running a wire over to the ballast...big difference and that mod cost pennies and 10 min. to do..............
..... no comparison to the old and a short $$$ modification. They then start like a new car does...My 113 doesn't even turn over a half turn and fires right up ..
[ 'couse everthing is spot on, too ]

I'll file this!

Alls well at the moment. Although somehow I think I'll file this memo for future reference. (Something tells me I should.) It'll make it easier to find if need be.
Thanx Arthur
