1967 250S (W108) Steering Column Linkage
I have a 1967 250S (W108), 4 speed on the column, and just recently have started to have a problem getting in Reverse. The Forward gears are no problem. My mechanic said it was most likely a rubber/neoprene bushing that was needed. When he got into it, he said a bearing at the lower section of the steering column that should be there, is not. Does anyone have a detailed picture of what are all the parts inside the steering column linkage that allow shifting? Thanks, and your comments and suggestions are much appreciated.

Hello,
Try the easy, inexpensive fixes first. Remove the shift lever by removing the large nut fitting at its base. The large ball on the shift rod should have a plastic bushing surrounding it. Most often these have disentigrated and are gone. This will cause shift "reach " problems. Replace the bushing. It is available and inexpensive from Mercedes. Next, check both of the shift rods going to the transmission top. The bushings at their ends most be intact. Bearing missing, not likely. Keep us up to date.
