Plug gap is .032.
If you have Platinum electrode plugs, the center electrode is not just Platinum coated but is made of a Platinum alloy that is solid all the way through. No chance of rubbing off the coating. I would never install a set of plugs w/o first checking, and adjusting if necessary, the gap. Many plugs come from the factory with the correct gap but it is not always correct. If using Platinum plugs, you do have to be very careful when adjusting the gap as it is easy to damage the porcelain around the center electrode. Once gapped, Platinum plugs will not erode the electrode as rapidly and will keep their gap for a much longer time. Platinum and Iridium plugs are used in modern engines, along with high energy ignition systems, so the gaps won't go out of spec and result in missing, which would cause an increase in pollution. In older cars with low energy ignition systems, plugs with steel, copper or silver electrodes are really better because these metals have less resistance and, along with the thicker center electrode, will deliver a more reliable spark at speed than Platinum or Iridium plugs. Not trying to start a flame-fest about the use of Platinum or Iridium plugs in our older cars, just stating some facts. Many folks use the Platinum plugs in their older Mercedes engines and are satisfied with the results. |

Understand that if your car is a euro it requires colder plugs tha USA spec cars.
