1978 M117 Trans Vacuum (W116)
Is there anything between the manifold vacuum source and the transmission modulator? no orifices or control valves?

Correct. No check valve or anything.

But the shift modulator itself is adjustable. There is an allen screw iside the transmission side connection. It regulates shift pressure in response to engine load as measured by the engine vacuum. I believe there is more information on this @ www.w116.org.

yeah, I know ALL about the vacuum modulator. I have a hard late shift, so if the vacuum line is intact and not leaking, I will turn the pressure down a little at a time till it gets better.

I checked the lines, everything is OK, it's a hard line to the manifold, I was expecting a plastic line. Anyway, I think my modulator may be shot or at least the cap. I noticed that it's the same style as the mod in my SD, different transmission. The modulator in the SD is red and the one in the SEL is white (or light green) does color mean anything? can I sawp them and hope it works?
