I wanna see cupholders! :P

It annoys me to no end that there are no cup holders in the 116..how have some of you folks dealt with it? Post your pics of your cup holder solutions.
I'm gonna put something in there, but I want something that's going to look decent, work well, and not detract from the overall splendor that is the 450SEL

Cupholders? I don't need no stinking cupholders!

Seriously, the only thing I typically drink in my cars is water, from a bottle with a lid, so I can lay it down on the passenger seat or in the center console.

No cup holders, please... MB wants you to concentrate on driving the car not your 'slurpy'

I think German manufacturers took a step backwards when they put them in a few years ago...

Cupholders are an annoyance but I typically didn't eat or drink in the car. It ruins the leather aromas.

Well, I don't chat or text while driving, but I do enjoy a more than occasional alcohol-free beverage behind the wheel, so at the risk of being ostracized from the Forum, I've installed single cupholders in the center consoles of all my W123 diesels. They're round charcoal-plastic doorhangers that I got super cheap at WaMmart. As I don't care for cupholders dangling from my doors, I trimmed off the hooks and fastened the cupholders into the center console with a single stainless screw. Then if I should decide to remove them later, there's only a single tiny hole in the console, easily hidden under the little carpet square.
And I believe a cup & straw secured in the center-console may be somewhat safer than grabbing for a loose bottle on the seat and and fumbling with the cap.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Well, I guess, no cupholders it is! I'd probably end up missing that nifty little storage tray in the center console anyhow.

On the W123, my 'custom' cupholders take up only the front 3.5 inches of the center tray, leaving plenty of room for the clutter that usually winds up filling the whole space.
If the idea of putting a tiny screw-hole in your center-tray makes you wince, you could attach a heavy lump of metal to the plastic cupholder as an anchor, or stuff one of those ready-made, weighted bean-bag cuphlders in your tray. On older Benzes, with the hard plastic tray, you could simply attach a cupholder to one of the existing screws that fasten the tray to the driveshaft tunnel.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Ya know, when I got this car, I had this idea I was gonna turn it tinto a custom job, but the more I look at this car, and the deeper into it's inner workings I get the more and more I feel Like I might leave this one stock for the most part.

I always used a jacket in the pass seat, never failed to hold whatever cup, with lid, I had in there. The w114 you can actually stick many of them between the pass side seat and adjustment handle. I've been putting up with euro cars most of my life...

Roll of ductape fits perfectly in the middle of a center console. Or there's the tried and true crotch cooler method. Works much better when you have an automatic.

I have one of those steel cups that you put coffee into. It has an open ended handle which I hang off the center console. It works quite well in my 6.9.

check these out

Saw an ad on our SL .com a while back for a guy that does cupholders that are a direct fit into the console.Kinda pricey, but look nice.
I suspect they would work on your 116 as well.

Custom Hand Crafted Cupholders. These beautiful holders are available with a vinyl covering or with a wood top featuring the same species offered by Mercedes. Choose from Zebrano or Burl Walnut. These install with no glue or fastners to damage your interior. See our site at www.autonotions.com

My '81 240D came with nifty folding cupholders screwed into the front door panels. They had vinyl-covered lids that matched the door upholstery when closed, but unfortunately the plastic springs that held the driver's side closed wore out, so it kept flopping open into my left arm and interfering with the window-crank.
I removed both cupholders, installed a matching set of Pick-N-Pull door panels without the screw-holes, and installed one of my custom cupholders in the center-tray.

Happy Motoring, Mark
