108 280SE dead engine - help!

Yes it's true, a little more then a month later, today I was driving home from a near town, and all of a sudden something started knocking really bad. I pulled over at a near gas station and it's under the manifold and then the car wouldn't start the knocking got really really louad and bad and the car died and would not restart. So I guess a piston popped or something to that effect I paid 80 to get it towed home and now I'm out 2 grand. My life sucks and now it really sucks.

Nik,

If you stop using, got to the NA meetings and get thirty days clean, I will drive from Houston to Ohio with my trunk filled with tools to help you work on your car. And, I probably would not be alone. The big squishy Panda from Kentucky would probably want to join me.

well I am not big , quite little in fact, makes it easy to crawl under these ol cars, squishy - now thats another issue:D
Certainly if I can work it out - why not, I love advetnures:)

Jeff and Panda that would be awesome, I'm having some heath issues right now and have to get a cat scan sometime this month but i have been clean for over a month. I just got back from vacation a couple days ago. I just want to get thus car running and ou of my driveway. Even if we cant get it running we can at least figure out the exact problem. Pop me a PM and we can exchange nuumbers. I would really appreciate it.

Nik, glad you're back. I hope you get and stay healthy -- in every way. Good luck.

I moved this to a new thread to keep everything clean and apart from the old thread. We don't need that one hanging around more :)

Nik: I hope you can get through your medical issues! Good luck! Hopefully you and your 108 can both be in superb running condition soon :)

Another Update.... I'm enrolling in an inpatient rehab and a 30day detox real soon..... I really want to get my life straight. But I still need help with my car. I still have not have not have anyone come over and identify exactly what is wrong with my car. Just saying again i would really like to take you up on your offer jeffery/Panda I'm not exactly sure when I'm going into rehab but I could be gone for a couple months. But I'll tell you having this beautiful car sitting in my drive way does not help my situation. I could be gone in the next week or so give or take. But before I go I would at least like to know where my car stands and the next step to take. I really appreciate everyones help. But like I said I still dont know EXACTLY what is wrong and if my engine is saveable.

as so many have said NIK, take care of yourself first, worry about the car later.
Keep us posted on your detox, and rehab. Believe it or not more of us are concerned about that more than your car at this point.

Hey I got to keep this thread alive. Is anyone still able to help me out? My car is still sitting in my driveway, all I really want to know at this point is exactly what is wrong with it and if it can be fixed with out getting a new engine. if I do need a new one I will take that to the next level if I can ever get any money. Please HELP!

Knock, Knock...not a joke.

I had a very similar experience and it turned out my 40 year old AC compressor had bit the bullet. If you have AC, try taking the belt(s) off and running it. You may still need a motor, but I was quite relieved (and restored the faith in my MB), that it was the York compressor, not the motor that had a rod noise. Noise could also be coming from the fan clutch (although that would be pretty strange). This simple test would eliminate any possibility it's the front belt driven accessories. Hope this helps.

A major vacuum leak can cause a knock AND make it difficult to start. Try disconnecting the brake booster and plugging the hole (vacuum port). Brake booster seals go out specially if the master cylinder leaks brake fluid onto the rubber diaghram

Nik_the_barber 05-31-2009 03:32 PM

Nik_the_barber 06-18-2009 01:26 PM

I don't know what to do. I still have no idea exactly what is wrong with my ride. I just have no idea what to do at this point.

Did you ever try the basics? Take off the distributor cap, have a friend crank the engine, and see if the rotor spins.

Hey just another update, Im now in rehad and out on a 6 hour break. I have been in for 13 days now and it's a 3 month program. I really really really want someone to set up a time and day to help me look at my car. If I even knew how to do these suggestions I would But I don't that's why I need someones help. My grandfather in law knows a lot about cars infact that is where the car is sitting now. But He is very busy and I don't know when he will have time to help. And If anyone know's where a m110 engine 6 is for sale for a good price. I'm getting really stressed about this and even find it hard to focus, cause with out this car I have no way to find work and all that jazz. Please if you have any time or info call me 513-889-8771. I would appreciate anyone's help. I would prefer you call cause I don't have access to the internet till the weekend.
