w115 rear window

My '74 240D rear window has a bad seal. Its all cracked, and I get a little water in the trunk when it rains (I think I read somewhere that the rear window leaks into the trunk). So I called a few places, even a place that carries glass for classics, and no one has a new rear window. Also, no one really wants to try removing the window and reinstall it with a new seal...that's understandable. The rear defrost is mostly shot, so a new window would be nice anyway.

Anyone know if someone still makes rear windows for these cars? If not, what's the best way to try to seal the cracked seal?

I use Safelite Auto Glass for my replacements.

You can short term repair the seal by using a butyl rubber sealant usually found at automotive body shop suppliers (Finishmasters, etc.). I've had one short term last for three years, of course we don't exactly worry about too much rain here!

Safelite is replacing my front windshield, I asked them about the rear and they came up with nothing.

I think I'll try a for a short-term repair of the seal using something...I'll look at butyl rubber...and hope it lasts a little longer then "short term".
Thanks.

I have used Black silicone caulk (from the hardware store) to repair window and door seals. Don't use the black rtv - the color won't match (it is silver-black) and it is difficult to get off paint and glass if you get any where you don't want it.
