use of Loctite
I will be assembling my rebuilt front suspension soon and was wondering if the forum has an opinion on using Loctite on the fasteners. Every so often I read that someone had a bolt or nut come loose on their suspension and I would like to prevent it.

Use the blue and you'll be fine. It's for medium grip. The red is a pain to remove and the green stud and race mount is impossible to remove. Locktite also makes a green which is a "wick" style so if you get the green check and see which version it is.
p.s., There are always a bunch of loose "nuts" on this board!:P |
ditto, I use blue , works fine, expensive stuff...

Aren't all front suspension bolts not equipped with cotter nuts or at least selflocking nuts? I have not tackled the MB suspension yet, but it seems that "just" a nut with lock washer is usually not enough anyway.

The bolts that attach the inner control arm pivots to the subframe are just "bolted in" and there are a few others I can't recall. I read on another forum of someone that had a control arm pivot come loose because the bolts came loose. The Loctite seems like a good idea.

I would IMAGINE if you follow factory torque-specs with new nuts&bolts it wouldn't be needed, BUT unless you replace all the nuts and bolts, it most surely is - think of how much more loose the threads are after decades of stress!
