That'll buff out
So I bought this 500sl that had been sitting outside for 5 years in a farm. The paint look pretty gruesome.
http://www.w108.org/gallery/albums/8...0551.sized.jpg As I has some free time today, I thought I would take a shot at restoring the paint. I went at it first with 1000 grit sand paper and soapy water, followed by Maguires medium cut cleaner and then Maguires machine glaze. Both using my cheap machine buffer. I did pretty well until the buffer died on me. This is a close up of the paint. I had already hosed the car down with a pressure washer when i got it. This was still on the paint. http://www.w108.org/gallery/albums/8...0555.sized.jpg After first pass with the buffer. http://www.w108.org/gallery/albums/8...0556.sized.jpg http://www.w108.org/gallery/albums/8...0557.sized.jpg From a distance http://www.w108.org/gallery/albums/8...0558.sized.jpg I stopped at the trunk lid, hood and sides because the buffer died. Will buy another one tomorrow and finish the job off. http://www.w108.org/gallery/albums/8...0560.sized.jpg |
WOW that looks really good. Does it run?
|
Is that an AMG badge on the right rear?!
Does it run? What did you have to pay for it? |
Have not started it yet because I want to drain the tank and put new lines on it. That will probably be taken care of tomorrow seeing as it's a cool day.
That's just a dealer badge on it. |
Yeah! I love dramatic stuff like this. Take a tired car and clean 'er up with some elbow. Looks great - keep going.

You didn't buy that one near Memphis, did you? There was some SL that I missed by 2 hours a couple of months ago.....
|
nope, this was a local car.

I'm not a fan of Meguair's products (for reasons stated elsewhere on peachparts) but it looks as if you made some progress with it.
Do you have an interest in selling it now, as is? If so, and you have a rational price, please advise. I may have a ready buyer for it. |
