Vin number
I just bought an old mercedes to restore and I have a problem. The title just says 69 4D mercedes, it has a rear emblem that says 200 s and the tag on the door says it's a 220d but it has a gas engine. Is there a way to get the year and model number from the 14 digit vin number?

You need to look in 3 places and write down all that you see and then tell us.
1. Read the plate on the door, the whole thing. 2. Under the hood are two metal plates right next to the hood latch. They should have a combination of printed and stamped numbers. Here, you will find your chassis number, option codes and a few other things. Please try and preserve the line breaks. 3. On the engine over the oil filter (near the plugs) will one of three things, a metal plate, a flat area below the plugs or a flat area above the plugs (in all cases, on the block, NOT on the head). Your engine number is stamped there. 4. Stamped on the radiator support itself should be a 14 digit number. (so, I can't count). If any of these things is hard to read, give it a squirt of WD40 to clean it and wet it a bit. -CTH |
