Diesel engine Swap
Guys, my M110 is eating me alive with the fuel usage, mpg its under 10, the car is four speed manual, would a diesel fit in there nicely?

No.
Even if you did 100 percent of the work yourself the price of a good MB diesel and parts alone would never be recouped with the marginal savings of diesel over gas. And when the world economy rebounds in the next 18 months diesel will be considerably more expense than RUG. It would be cheaper to fix the M110 to improve fuel usage. |

What year and model are we talking about here? A diesel swap may not be that difficult. As long as you can get the parts for cheap, it may be worth it. I would suggest you try to figure out what's wrong with your M110 first however. Single digit gas mileage isn't normal.

Probably better off selling it and buying a diesel. No sense in butchering a nice vintage Mercedes when there are hundreds of alternatives available.

depends on the car and what your willing to spend. If it's a w114 or w123, buy a doner car for a grand and go for it. I can see it being a pain trying to piece it together without a whole car to pull parts from. As an asside, my auto M110 w114 get's 16 combined, with a less than ideal solex 4v. Something is amiss with yours. If you can live with mid-teens mileage, consider fixing it. but it'll be worlds better as a dialy use car with a diesel in my opinion.

Where are you located, I have a 280E motor that I was going to use on a engine mod project that will never happen.
I do know that you can do a gasser to diesel swap, as the person I got my engine from did just that.
