Hello Peaches,

My wife came with me to look at this car in June. At the time she gave me that, "you can't be serious?" stare. Since we already own 3 cars that won't fit into our garage with 3 motorcycles and tools/storage, I have to pay for a storage unit ($175/mo). I made a deal anyway and asked for time to come get it. Yesterday, this 1959 220Sb followed me home.

It needs a lot of work. Ever hear of "it was running when we parked it"?

I think you are going to be very uncomfortable living in that storage unit this time of year.

Where can I find 13 inch tires? The book only says 13 inch 7.5 inches, which is not translated into a modern tire size?

A fellow Houstonian! Also look out for "the AC just needs a bump of freon".

Nice! Look forward to more pics, especially before, during and after :D

If you just want driver tires, then Firestone FR380's are about $50 each. Otherwise you've got Coker or Diamondback at $150 each or more.

Congratulations! I have one too. And two trailers full of spare parts plus 3 spare engines.

The best body style Mercedes ever made! We have 6 of them on the property (if only I could find an affordable late production sunroof model).

Welcome to the club. Please post some pics and the chassis number, 111.012-nn-nnnnnn. If you have single circuit drum brakes and a flap on the center of the firewall above the engine, you have what's called a 1st version. There are some minor differences with the 2nd version at the 1963 model year changeover:

Dual circuit brakes, front discs, some front suspension variations and different carbs.

BTW, nice looking car. 13's would translate to 185-13's. I have a set of the late 70's and 80's aluminum wheels, called Bunts, that are 14" and look really nice. They are available new in aftermarket or used from a later Mercedes sometimes with 14" wheels.

tirerack dot com will UPS those 13" tires to your door

meltedpanda 08-20-2009 11:33 AM

Nice car!

If you want to upgrade to 14" wheels to have a better choice of tires while keeping the original look, I have a set of five 14"x6" early W108 rims on which you can fit your center hubcaps. Thay were on my W111 Coupe and they are straight. They would also allow you to upgrade to disc brakes with 108 parts if you wish to do so at a later stage.

Hey! Looks almost like the exact color gray on my '67, except not faded. Congrats man, they're the best! What's the color combo of the interior?

I'm running the firestone 185/80/13's right now, they have a nice thin whitewall stripe that is similar to what they had when new and they ride great. They're also very close to the exact same size as the originals so the speedo will be correct and they're the right price, I would recommend them. (never thought I'd say that about firestones)
