I have always thought that the engine/transmission from a "classic" Saab 900 would be a good match for the DS.

Of course, I have never owned let alone turned a wrench on a DS so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to make it fit.

I have no idea what a Saab engine looks like. But the 900 is one of these cars which have something that make them stand apart from the rest. Have you noted that both the DS and the Saab have the same windshield shape? The both push the air sideways instead of sending it upwards. Result is a lot of room inside the car.

Honda engines rotate 'backwards', or so I'm told.

There is one guy who added an aftermarket air suspension to a Fintail.
Sorry I'm late!

The suspension was installed earlier this year and I have loved every mile since. I actually work for the Air Lift Company would be glad to extend a great discount to all fellow Mercedes owners. Just let me know that you are a member of this forum. Feel free to send an email to bplaunt@airliftcompany.com if you have any questions or want to get pricing on components.

I just got an email from someone who has just installed a W201 diff into a Fintail and used airbags to get airride rather just have a low rider. A very simple conversion by all accounts. He has done a lot of other things to the car he doesn't want spread about just yet so i can't post pics. But it is impressive...even has full suspension and yaw control in a W111!!!

re: a "lowrider" mercedes

before you continue with your, uh, "improvements", please watch "casablanca" in its original version, and then in the "improved" ted turner-colorized version. if that doesn't make you think for a sec, then continue. ( i promise to weep quietly in the corner when you post pictures of your blingmobile.) thanks

I do it for myself. It's a ton of fun doing the work and I've saved it from the wrecking yard *twice*. It's no concourse car or show winner.. dented trim, wavey doors and patched floorboards. It's a daily driver which with I commute 160kms ever day.
You don't have to appreciate it if you don't want to, that's okay. But if you want to weep quietly in the corner some more, I have another picture for you:

I was given a W114 like that .I had to fit springs because it was impossible to drive. In fact I only drove it once and it got stuck on the neighbors front lawn when the belly dragged . and i got stuck. I had to go and ask an angry neighbor for a shove to get it moving.

so if I were to put RE6's in the back of my 190c 1962, would I get a mega problem with the Single joint swing pivot axle? I understand the camber would occur, but If i were to not drive constantly so low, or relocate the shocks, would it help?

A 190 ?
Back to the topic.. The big problem is yes,it places strain on a part designed to run in a flat plane.
It will run at an angle but it is not designed to run constantly at full deflection . The part is strong though, the same part is used in a 6.3 diff.
What also happens is the outer diff bearings become starved of oil and their life is shortened very quickly. All the oil drains into the diff head. Eventually the worn bearings cause the seals to leak and you suddenly have grabbing rear brakes as the diff oil leaks into the drums.
Your trailing arm donuts will wear out and if they are old now, will wear really fast. This in turn buggers the rubber bushes on the axle ends.
My big issue with lowering a W110 or W111 is that the rear end looks silly with so much rear camber, in fact just like an overloaded beetle.
Do a bit of engineering and consider improving the whole car by installing a later diff such as that suggested above, from a W124. There are some cheapies out there,in fact a whole 230E could be bought really cheap and you could install the back end, improve the front brakes and utilise some the 230's brake parts to make your car nicer to drive and you could raise lower and still have a driving car.
Looks aint everything ,especially if have to battle under a car when a "mod" goes wrong .

No it wont bolt in but because they are small and compact in design there isn't too much to make a four mounting points to attach one under a W111.
It doesn't matter what year ,all W124's are just that..W124 .
What you need to consider is the engine size you are running and pick one from a four,Six or eight cylinder W124 to suit your needs.
