Parts car in Tucson, AZ. I'll post some pics here and in the parts forum. It's not mine, just posting for a friend. He took it in as a trade and wants $450.00 for the beast. I looked at it and did a VERY quick check over for the obvious problems.
It starts, runs and drives. Good immediate oil pressure and no smoke to speak of. Has a funny idle which is most likely a vacuum hose leak. The tach doesn't work and I didn't think about trying the A/C. No big pieces of metal sticking out of the engine anywhere and no knocks, bangs or clattering.
The sun roof works, three of the four windows go up and down. You can hear the motor on the 4th engage so the regulator is most likely the problem. The paint is sun blasted with the clear starting to bubble and peel (ahh, Arizona!) but no body rust. There is some surface rust on the trunk but it wipes off with just finger pressure. No rust under the battery tray.
Interior is sun trashed but no rust on the floorboards. Car SAYS 174K but we all know about that deal. Could be true, other than the sun baked paint and the interior the car seems solid.
Looks like the lower part of the steering gear box was recently resealed which would explain the gallon jug of power steering fluid in the trunk!
No leaks now so I guess they fixed it. No rust at the gear box mounting. No obvious rust along the frame rails.
I don't need the car since I have 2 W114 projects under way and a W126 waiting in the wing for its turn.
