problem starting 72 Mercedes 280 se 4.5
Thanks for the info Does he have a name of the shop he works for. I have had a problem starting since I moved down here . Sometimes when I try to start, it doesnt turn over. If I put my foot on the brake or take it out of park and then back in it starts up most of the time but it seems like its getting worse. Any ideas ?

For over twenty years I have used Keith and Kellie at European Imports, 1952 Airport Industrial Drive, two stop lights north of Hwy 41 and Windy Hill. 770-612-6552. They are fair, do good work, and you can always trust them to do only what is needed. Keith does the mechanic'ing and Kellie runs the front office. Cannot give them any but the highest rec.

Try this:
http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W108NeutralSafetySwitch My backup lights wouldn't come on, refreshing and re-adjusting the switch fixed that. Your NSS sounds like it's dirty inside so the contacts aren't making contact. A new one is around $150-200 last I checked.

There are a couple of great mechanics in Atlanta along with a number of junk yards that always have W108's in them.
The guy that took care of my 280SEL 4.5 and really turned it around from me being that close to scrapping it was a guy called Chris Spenser who now works at Certified Auto Repair on Clairmont Rd (If your heading north on I85, turn right on Clairmont Ave and it will be a mile or so on your left). This is not a Mercedes Benz shop but all of mechanics that work there are ASC certified and in their 40's and 50's. Chris is old enough to have worked on these cars when they were new and knows the D-Jetronic system very well and is generally an excellent mechanic with great diagnostic skills. Give them a call and make sure you talk to Chris Spenser. We've become good friends since he took care of my car and still keep in touch. You can find his contact details here: www.carofatlanta.com Jonathan Hodgeman is also in Atlanta is another mechanic I trust. He is an MB mechanic but I believe that his focus is on the later models. He can be found on http://www.blueridgemb.com Jonathan is a contributor to this forum and a very nice guy, he has gotten me out of a situation a couple of times. You can find posts from him on the forum and contact him directly through here.
