Solex 4A1 float
guys,
I rebuilt the Solex 4A1 b/c it idles like crap and stalling on stops due to vacuum leaks and it's gaskets were very thin and I bought a repair kit and I made 2 duplicate (double gasket) the top gasket from 2mm paper gaskets from top phenolic gasket included in the kit. Now the car drives smoothly and held idle under load however still had rough idle and I checked the primaries and I saw dripping fuel and the fuel in fuel bowl is almost all the way to the top, and the float is completely submerged. Is the float now busted (confirmed) and it's time for me to replace the float. Damned gas stations has 10% ethanol which is required by our Philippine law and they did serious damage to the rubberized floats and according to the parts book, there's a float that's resistant to fuel and M15 methanol not ethanol (made of plastic I think), I know ethanol-mixed gas is harmful to carbbed engines especially old ones but I was desperate to get home by filling up gas with ethanol about 11 liters otherwise leaving my car stuck on heavy traffic. |
BTW, Where can I buy that new hip roof fuel float? thanks
