1968 280s manifold?
Any body know can I buy a new or after maket exhaust manifold for my 1968 280s that I am restoring? even better yet, it will be great if I could find a mechinlist that can build me a better one out of forge steel.
I am located in santa barbara county california but I can ship the part anywhere in the usa or germany if I have to. My 1968 280s is a 108 chassic engine m130 920 thanks dpl |

Those manifolds come up on Ebay occasionally. Check for parts and accessories and then vintage parts. Watch out for the Willys Jeep junk which seems to infest the old MB parts.

minor detail, but you have two exhaust manifolds, one front and one rear. They are cast iron and do their job usually well.
Yours cracked? If so, you need a replacement. Tucked away inside each manifold is a heat riser that helps warm the intake manifold. That riser needs to be movable and the spring on it needs to be intact so that the flap stays closed in all but the car's initial warm up period. It has several failure conditions: - Flap has disintegrated - pivot pin is stuck with the flap closed - pivot pin is stuck with the flap open There are threads here about fixing it. Don't expect to find a used one in working condition. If you were contemplating a mega-squirt throttle body solution to the carb setup, you can do away with those heat risers and get the SE (fuel injected) version of the manifolds. Thx -CTH |

both front and rear manifold are all rusted out very badly and the heat riser have so much rust build up unuseable.

The same manifolds are used on the 250SE, 250SL, 280SE and 280SL. The earliest 230SL had a different manifold. The later ones were like the others I listed.
