Thumbs up 72' 280se 4.5 1st ROAD TRIP

The 108 I brought home back in May, after sitting for 16 years, just had its 1st road trip. Drove her 126 miles one way to our family Thanksgiving gathering. All shined up and after all the work she really looked and drove great! Part of the drive was across the Mississippi delta and the long straight highway was a good place to turn it loose. Came out of Greenwood,Ms and had the pleasure of running several miles with a new Merc and he was laying down on it but the ole 108 hung in there. Got a big thumbs up before they made their turn off the highway. My wife and son came in the F250 but I wanted the adventure and to finally give her a good long drive. Must say that the 4.5 will really get up and go, seemed to really settle in at 80mph and less highway patrol could've been more. thanks for everyones help here on the forum to put her back on the road.
Ain't life fun!

Congrats on the road trip. I recall the first one with my '72 SL 4.5L - Took it up well over 100mph on a short section -that was 20 yrs ago - never done that since!

Another thing to note is how well the car will run in the upcoming weeks. Regular, hard use is the best thing for these cars. Dan at the m-100 board has a mantra "garages kill".

Congrats my friend, it's a wonderful feeling and a fine thing, saving one of these cars.

tjohnson,

Congrats on a successful trip. I've had the barn find out on a couple of 100 mile trips. Runs sweeter each time out. It's nice to know that there is another vintage Mississippi MB 108 on the road again.

Next October you might want to consider this event. We had a blast this year and next year is expected to be better. Ridgeland is just down the road from you. Hope to see you in the MB section.

I remember the first road trip in my 250CE, it even made it a few miles from where I picked it up before spectacular coolant failure made pulling over sound fantastic.
