Hello my name is Eric and I have been lurking on the site for a while just absorbing the wealth of info available here.
I am in process of acquiring a 62 300se. The car has been stored for a little over ten yrs but I was told that it ran strong when it was parked (owner passed) I am buying the car from the widow.
I only viewed the car long enough to get a few pic's and it is "beautiful"
I know I will have some issues to deal with on a car that has been stored this long but the price was too good and she provided me with all the service records since 1970. the eng and trans were done in the mid eighties.
I know that there were approx 331 made but how many were coupes?
and what could I expect it to be worth with orig paint and in good running condition?

Sweet! Nice to see they stored it properly even on cinder blocks... saves the airbags and less stress on the F subframe & suspension.

Yes it is... I have yet to see numbers delineated between coupes & 'verts. Hopefully someone knows and can provide concrete data.

The factory didn't distiguish between the two. If you info at www.300se.org, then you can trust it, as Chris is super-duper careful about such things.

Pay very careful attention to how you move that car. With the suspension down, it will be about 3 inches off the ground when those cinder blocks are removed. With the car directly on the ground, there is no clearance to get a jack under it and there is no clearance for the car to tilt getting onto a flatbed.

Your best bet is to invest in several 2x10 pieces of lumber and have the wheels sit on them rather than the floor. Get them cut to 4 foot lengths so that they are manuverable. 12 to 14 pieces at that short length will do (yes, that's lots of wood).

As for value, it's very variable. But offset that by the cost of replacing the distributor cap. Make sure you're sitting down when you ask for that one.

I like this one... "There are some individual parts costs that, by themselves, will make you blush. The most notorious of these is the distributor cap. A new one will set you back over $600.00. By weight, it compares favorably with gold, and you should treat it as such."

Thx tbb and cth, I will bring some lumber for sure and a compressor to see if I can get the suspension to pump up.

Is there a place to go to find out a ball park value for this car?.....just trying to ease up the wife for when I get the car home!

More details about the car is needed, but IMO just by judging from your pics and some description it should be worth at least 10K as-is.

I'm quite sure ALL air suspension cars came with emergency rubber "blocks" that could be inserted between the suspension members to facilitate movement/towing in the event of total suspension failure. check the trunk for these. If you don't have them, try and find someone in your area (through this and other MB forums) with any of the later air cars (all 300s of one sort or another) who will loan you their blocks.
I suppose something along the same lines could be jury-rigged as well.

Well I went to check the 300 out a little better and to add air to the susp. It pumped up so when I go back today I'll see if it's leaking.
I went thru it and found all of the owners manuals,paperwork and docs dating back to time of purchase including the name plaque with the orig owners name engraved still in the bag.
The car has been sitting for about 9 yrs and not so much as a stain underneath. There is some rusting on the rockers but not major.
I am goin to try and get it home this weekend.
