I sell Porsche parts, and learn every day to appreciate Mercedes-Benz more due to this fact.

Really? What is the availability of parts for the 912? I will own one someday and want to know what to expect.

I was so surprised by the availability and low cost of NOS MB parts for vintage models...

PC tech heh I was a director of technology at a community college for 7 years. You have my sympathy.

At least you're in AZ.

What's all this FUH FUH FUH crapola? If that's your stereotype of SL owners, it's your problem.

I bought my 380SL from a retiree living in subsidized housing.

I lurked around the W126 & W107 forum all the times. I just bought a W108 so now here I am. I am a real estate agent for 12 years and this economy has hit the RE market hard. I had to subsidize the income with the hobby/love of older cars especially MBZ's by eBaying my stock pile of spare parts and that led me to a part time seller of anything vintage European car parts.

I haven't worked for the last 35 years. I gave up being an import car mechanic in '74 when the cars got complicated. Went on to selling parts. Right now I manage the Perkins engines product line of the distributor for the Mid-South. If a Perkins engine breaks down in the Mid-South I usually get the call. The pay is crap but the job is low stress. I'll vacation here until retire in a few years, that is unless congress craps on us again. If that happens I might have to go back to work.

I should have stuck with business law. NAAH then I'd have heartburn.

I captain a 65 foot sportfish that winters in Florida and summers in New York. Lots of fixing things, domestic cleaning, washing the boat, fixing things, cleaning things, driving the boat, fixi- oh I said that-and submitting expense reports, etc. I'm the full time one man crew so I do it all.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but I will say SL guys have NEVER waved at me in any of the w123, w126, or even the w114 in it's shiny glory I've owned. I don't take it personally, but even guys in w124's and whatever the gen after that was grin at the w114.

But then again I don't pay much attention to them either, not my thing.

Depends on the year, ALL the really early stuff is getting thin(and old).
Maintenance stuff is still reasonable, but body parts, rubber, interior, trim, adds up quick. Buy a nice one if you do. If anything Porsche was cheap, we wouldn't go through the grief we do for em. Some o fthe vintage Mercedes stuff is in the same price range actually, maint stuff is cheaper though. I think there is better parts support for Porsche, the community overall has or is willing to spend more money. Our place did Mercedes parts five or so years ago, BMW too, just no money in it comparatively, not like Porsche. Euro parts is a funny business, especially salvage.

I am Captain Coda.....current caretaker of a 1986 300SDL named "Coda". Here's the thread:
Coda, 1986 300SDL, the journey continues........
My family often thinks this is my part time job.....

It isn't.

I am a DB2 LUW database administrator and Database Architect for a Memphis based Food Manufacturer. Most of you have our products in your kitchen.......or have used them in your past......or have heard of them.

I bought my first (2 actually) Mercedes in March 2007. I'm known on the forum for my uncanny ability to find and resale used MB parts. My parts cars have threads in the Parts Forum.

I'm in the Vintage forum tonight because of:
  • 1979 300SD, "Next"
  • and a pending purchase
That's probably enough information for now.....

Believe it or not, I still have a turn signal relay for an Aronde in my parts bin, lol

Guess that means I never throw parts away lol.
