Photos of Sophia, my 1972 280 SEL 4.5

She was originally from California, then went to Ohio and now Texas. My brother bought it in ’03 I think, and I got it from him in 2005. I keep it garaged & need a few little jobs on it right now.

I like the period coco floor mats!

Is it a 280SE or SEL? The rear doors look short and what is the color code? Looks interesting!

Bastard, you now own one of my favorite cars in the world. That car is an absolute beauty. I'm sure I'm not the only one who spends hours looking at ebay/autotrader/etc and it's effing AWESOME to see one this nice in the hands of someone who is going to take good care of it. Congrats on a gorgeous car.

PS: That interior is gorgeous!

uh, seems to be lacking an "L" on the rear badge, and the back seat looks a little cramped? (but i'd still take in a heartbeat. )

Thanks for the all the comments, she has been taken care of over the years.
Sorry my bad, she is an SE. As for the color, if I am reading the old original vehicle data card right (in box 7, under UT) it says code 576.
My brother had several different diesel coups, which didn’t do much for me, but I fell in love with this 108 model. The color still pops and she turns a lot of heads. I think being garaged has saved it, but I think it will need a quality paint job some time soon. If you get real close there are tiny dots under the paint (surface rust??) No major rust anywhere, just little bits here and there.
I live close to downtown and drive her around on weekends and about once a month I take her on the expressway for a 45 mile round trip to get the dust out.

Here is Sophia’s lineage, from all the service records:

Purchased from: Sheppard’s Service, Inc. Cincinnati Ohio in 1972
Went to Santa Ana California in 1983
Back to Cincinnati OH in 1999 (new exhaust, and engine& trans. mounts etc. )
Moved to Texas in 2004

What a beautiful machine! Obviously, it was never forced to endure the winter acid that is put on the roads here in Cincy in great abundance, or the year-round piss-poorly placed patches and pot holes. It should last forever in its new home. You are the envy of many of us.

Sophia is Beautiful!! Wow!

You are taking good care. I had a 1972 280se back in 1986 that didn't look as good as Sophia.

When are you coming to Houston? I want to see the car in person!
