Thule bike rack on W115?

Because I MTB and roadrace, I am anticipating needing a Thule or similar bike rack system.

Anyone use one on their W115? Hoping to find one used and am wondering what models fit.

If you have the same roof rails I have there's no question that some kind of bike rack will fit. The rails are in there so damn well you could probably dock the international space station to the top of a w114/115.

That said I'll keep my eyes peeled around town to see if I find one that fits well on top of my car as I wouldn't mind having a bike rack to toss on there when I need to bring a bike somewhere.

My quite old Yakima rack fits a W114 altho the uprights are all the way out to the ends of the bars. I had to remove the end caps on the bars if I remember right. Could have bought new bars but I'm cheap. I'd expect it to fit a W115 since the difference is motive power and number of spot welds.

That's the uprights and cross bars I have but I use the bike holder that keeps the bike in one piece and grabs the down tube. It's never given me a lick of trouble and I carried ladders, plywood and sheetrock home with it on my '83 Mazda 626 Coupe. Had it since 1988.

I use a Thule gutter mount rack I had on a 500 SEC back in the early 90's. The gutters must be the same because the towers fit the gutter perfect. I just cut off the "rod's" so I'm not banging my head getting in and out of the car after an exhausting ride.

Yep, like Colorado220 said, the yakima system that will fit your car is the 1A raingutter towers, and you'll probably need 58" crossbars. The crossbars come in 48", 58", 66" and 78" intervals. If you can't get the exact fit you want with those numbers, you can simply cut the bar down to the size you want (the end caps pull off and can be stuck back on). Check for racks on Craigslist. In my area, they come up all the time and are definitely a better deal than paying for new.

Good info, all. Thanks!
