1963 220SE Cabriolet - Power Windows?

Does anyone know if power window regulators from an early 300SEC coupe will match up with the manual windows in my 220SE cabriolet. My interior is the last part of the restoration and I am considering adding power windows. I know they came in the 300SEC - I am just hoping I don't have to change all the glass. Its been a while since I have had a door panel off but I think the manual windows use the plastic slider in the groove of the piece at the bottom of the window. Seems like steps would be install the regulator, put the male end that's on the end of the regulator through the plastic slider, put on the clip, wire the electrics and bingo.

Anyone else done this? Am I missing anything?

Many thanks in advance

My 1962 sedan has manual windows... Thank GOD! Mercedes electric windows use aluminum window regulators that wear out or lose shape/fail too quickly. The simplicity of windup windows is part of the charm of being vintage for me.

I imagine such a change would harm the value of your cabriolet. Will you cut holes in the door panels to install the up/down buttons?

Good thought Jeffry - I had not considered the quality of the regulators. I actually have a complete extra set of door panels and back seat panels so I would "butcher" those for the project if its feasible and if I undertake it.

In terms of reducing the value of the car, I have converted the car to an alternator system but preserved all the generator related parts so the car can be returned to original if someone sees fit. I would handle this the same way, preserving all manual parts for the future.

Many thanks for your thoughts!

Lee
