D-jet injector boots - where to buy?
Does anybody know where I can buy the rubber boots that go over the electrical contacs of the D-jet injectors? I saw an old post from CTH350 which alluded to a source. I also have not been able to find these in the EPC. Mine are all old and brittle.
I also need the rubber boot over the trigger points. It crumbled in my hands the other day. Thanks, Bert

You can buy a complete new injector harness from MB. But a bit pricy!

I am at step 1 - figuring out the parts availability and prices. I did read somewhere else as well that pins have to be removed from nylon connector for installation.
Where in the EPC do you find the cable harness(es)? I spent a good time browsing through it yesterday evening and could not find the harnesses in the EPC. What was the price from MB? Thanks, Bert

I searched and searched when I did my refurb, I went with coverings ( braided type) and worked fine, looks good too. I also need the boot for the trigger point connection. I have not been able to find that either, if you do order two!!! I 'll buy one. Perhaps someone out there has a few spares

This link gives Bosch part numbers in section C9 http://www.cannell.co.uk/Bosch_Technical/efi_techserviceparts.pdf I am interested myself, so still researching. OK - Came up with these part numbers off epc and prices from Trademotion site (kind of pricey! Might be worth checking with Bosch dealer for their part numbers)

Yep, the EFI cable harness with the 107 number is $652 from MB.
I found a Bosch 2009 price list and it list the rubber boot (Bosch 280 703 012)as $12.18. Times 8 + tax and shipping adds up fast! I just found reproduction boots and ordered them (variety pack). I'll let you know how they are. There may be triggerpoint boots in there too. Given the electrical gremlins in my car, it would almost be worth it to get another EFI harness. Bert

Or are they eliminated from EPC due to NLA? Bert

Call Tom Hanson at the Mercedes Benz Classic Center. He is the manager of the parts desk. If a new harness is available he will know where to find it.

I could be wrong but wouldn't a 3.5's harness (108/109, maybe even 111) be identical to the 4.5's harness? Only the ECU would be different, as the 4.5 has a different fuel calc curve & does the 10% full throttle enrichment the 3.5's doesn't, otherwise the location of everything is identical.
I've thought about making new 3.5/4.5 harnesses and selling them for maybe $200 as repro units. Of course that cost is dependent upon how much I can get the boots & plugs for. Otherwise I'd probably charge less & sell a "Modern replacement" with shrink-wrapped connectors vs the rubber boots.

Got the repro boots and they look very good!
As mentioned I took a chance and ordered some reproduction boots and they arrived today. I am pleasantly surprised. They look pretty much the same as the original (even the correct Bosch part number is molded in them).
The set has 8 fuel injector (2 pin) boots (Bosch 280 703 012), 2 trigger point type (3-4 pin) boots (Bosch 280 703 016), and 4 2-3 pin boots (Bosch 280 703 015). Plus it comes with a step by step guide describing how to replace your old boots. All for $25 + $8 s/h. Here is the ebay link for them: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360227185670&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Bert

We would need the 8 injectors. Then we need one for the Throttle Position Switch (5pin), one for the MPS(4pin), one for the Trigger points(5pin), Air Temp(2pin), Coolant Temp(2pin), Thermo-time sw, 100C switch, cold start valve and one other (temp gauge sensor?) Total of 20 plugs. Buying OE plugs and boots would not make sense - cost as much as a new harness. sjefke - What do the instructions say about replacing the boots? Do the plugs have to be removed?

Yes, plugs have to be removed and instructions show how to get the pins out. There is a special EFI pin removal tool that NAPA sells according to instructions, or you can use jewelers type screwdriver. Basically, you have to get the contacts out of the nylon plugs, route the contacts through the boots and puch them back into the nylon plugs.
I just looked under the hood of my car and air temp boots are an elbow type boot - different than the flat 2 pin injector boots. I agree that parts price starts to approach MB price. Best strategy would be to make modern replacements like Tomguy suggested, especially for those who really like to drive the car(s) daily and don't care too much about concours d'elegance judges. Besides, boots are hidden under air filter housing anyway. I may take the plunge and replace my boots (once I got the engine going again) and see how it goes. I attached a pdf scan of the instructions. Bert
