Cheap Radio for 240D

I am looking for a nice, cheap new radio to put into my 240D. The Becker Europa works fine, but I want something that I can stick my ipod into with an Aux plug. Nothing fancy, as its just the two front non stereo speakers. I go to Best Buy and there are so many different sizes.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Any radio that is DIN sized will work.
That's most of them now-a-days.

I saw one recently and thought it was perfect for an older car. You have basically a radio with an SD card, USB and Aux in. No CD player (who needs one these days) including 2 speakers for $33.

Be aware that cheapies like that one have such little output power that it may not be listenable over a 240D running full tilt.

Crutchfield, while not everyone's favorite, is a great place to do some research.

The first 20 shown are under $100 and only the first one won't fit without an adapter kit. Just look for a single DIN mount radio and you'll be OK.

If you get the $33 deal from Amazon, you'll find out quickly why they aptly chose the brand name Pyle.

Many places will not list radios and speakers for MB because while many products will fit, they are not a perfect fit. I believe it is just done this way now to cut down on returns and customer service questions.

I just took out my Becker Europa mono and replaced it with DIN mount modern tunes. Piece of cake.

The speakers were a little more of a challenge. The original mono speaker is a weird size so nothing off the shelf would fit. What I ended uo doing is getting some 3 1/2" speakers that has a small magnet and a flush inner cone. With holding my toung right and the fabrication of a small L bracket I was able to get 2 speakers into the original hole & the grille fit over them.

For the back speakers I found some small boxed speakers that I stuck to the parcel shelf with Velcro. I ran the wiring under the front floor mat next to the heater duct to the front of the front door opening on each side. At that point I was able to sneak the wiring under the raised portion of the threshold plate all the way to the back seat. There was a small hole between the inner fender and the rear bulkhead where I was able to route the wire to the trunk. From there I ran the wire through a small hole in the parcel shelf to the speaker.

Now I can cruise in style while the interior of the car is bathed in the ambiance of modern tunes.

Be careful not to hit the brakes too hard. I can't imagine that Velcro will protect your head in the event of a hard stop.

I think its been proven that even a tissue box on the rear deck can cause injury in a crash or sudden stop. That myth may have been busted by Jamie and Adam though.

That's because the tissue box wan't secured with Velcro. If you don't like Velcro you have my permission to use screws.

I read about a mod on their site where they hardwire a plug into the radio. Is this an iPod interface or is it just a stereo mini plug?
