280C - Confused Transmission
Now that the 280C is running dependably, one of the problems that I need to tackle is the behavior of the transmission.
My understanding of this transmission is that it in "D" the car should start in 2nd unless you put the pedal to the metal. What is happening is that from a standing start with anything more than the most gentle pressure on the throttle, the trans shifts to 1st and then quickly shifts to 2nd. The shift to 3rd is then premature. In "S" the car starts in 1st and shifts more or less normally into 2nd (rough) and 3rd. I am completely without documentation on the transmission. Is there a fairly simple repair or adjustment that I can try to alleviate this problem or am I better off having Herr Fuchs deal with it? TIA Chuck |

I have same issues which I can not seem to get an answers on.
Mine works great, just like an American made autos does. Leave in drive, dead stop, slowly take off and it will go 1st, 2nd, 3rd. It is only when I start off in a rolling stop that it actually start shift pattern in 2nd. Mine is a 72 model, grey market, SLC/107. Excellent and strong. How can we get some answers? Best, Tim |
