Carbuertor replacement kit questions

I'm not easily finding parts for the Pierburg 175CD that was put in the car likely as a replacement for the original Zenith Stromberg 175CD.

Has anyone used the Weber retrofit kit distributed by Redline?

Is this worth the $600-$800 people are asking for? Is this carburetor more reliable than the original?

Looking for feedback on your experiences, thoughts, ideas.

Its a lotta money but they probably work well. Maybe you could find some used.

So what has your experience been with this carburetor? Do you have any positive or negative feedback as to the installation? Did it add performance? Did it add reliability or ease of use?

Was it an improvement over the carburetor that it had replaced?

I have not used a jam kit. Over the years though I have adapted a few non oe carbs to other cars and my observation is this: a weber carb is a very well engineered carb built to a high standard with very high quality parts. It will provide years of service if installed and adjusted correctly.

But...lIf the oe carb is in good operating condition the weber will probably not provide better performance or economy by much if any.

The advantage is you will have a new carb that will provide years of service without trouble.

I don't know what type of carb set-up you have, but used Webers can be found on Fiats and Yugos if there is a wrecking yard near you that has such cars in it.

However, they are all downdrafts. You can pick up an adapter from sidedraft mounting to downdraft if you can find an old TR-7.

Here is a place that might be helpful...

Why not just go back to the Stromburg? They are weird little machines, but they work great after they are storted out.

I am not sure about now, but up to a few years ago you could still buy one new from Mercedes. If you are considering dropping $800 why not go for the real thing?

Before I'd spend $800 on a side draft carb.

M115 T.B.I. conversion

I finally found a Pierburg 175CD rebuild kit for my carb. That will be the first order of business. Thanks for all suggestions. I may go Weber if this doesn't work out.

What engine is in the car 1971 220? Is that an M130 or an M110?

Do you have one that is relatively complete? If so how could we arrange something?

Impressive, but more involved than I have the time and patience for. If there were a kit I'd be up for it. Nice work!

I probably have at least one that is complete. But I would not install an old carburetor without cleaning it first and installing a new carburetor kit.

What parts are you trying to replace on your Pierburg? Are you just not finding a carburetor kit? Or do you need a float or something like that?

What part of the world are you in? How far from Houston, Texas?

The carb on the car is likely a replacement sometime in the 70's or early 80's. I've had the car running on this carb, albeit not well.

The car has been sitting in dry storage since the mid 80s.

The ignition system is working well, though I am replacing the points with the Hot Spark ignition.

I was able to locate a carb repair/rebuild kit after a search across the globe. A company in GA had one in stock. That said, I may be on borrowed time with this carb and thought it may pay to upgrade to one of the Redline Weber kits.

I'm not opposed to maintaining an original Zenith, though I don't have one.

Do You have an automatic one? If You do, I strongly suggest that You make sure that You won´t experience any problems when using non-original carburettor.

At least older W108 automatic needs an item called "idle lifting switch" on the front Zenith for proper shifting..
