...it is just for looks,to keep the rear of the car clean and no other reason. On 6.3's the stock muffler fed right out the back beyond the bumper as anyone who has walked behind one and either got burnt or tripped over the damned things.

My 6.9 had a bumper hit which caused the rubber molding to sit too low causing a lot of melting around the exhaust tip. Even then it is clamped a little high too and haven't gotten around to messing with it. I put a non reflective black downward tip on it to vent the hot exhaust away from it and it works without being unsightly.

methinks I should close this can-o-worms...yay or nay?

For the image minded people, they're for keeping the rear of the car clean.
For the performance minded people it helps exhaust scavenging.
