help on rear axle identification

need some help on identifying whats on my newly acquired 1978 euro spec 450slc. the rear axle has been worked on and the dif cover is new and clean as are the brake lines etc. I have been through EPC net pictures for std and ROW cars and all of my manuals and cannot identify it from pictures so I need to know if its original or a modification.
first pic is my USA spec 450sl showing the control arm and the brakes situated at the rear of the disk
second pic is the euro 450slc with the additional block and drop arm and the brakes at the front edge of the rear disk
my euro 350sl looks just like my US 450sl - nothing like the new slc
any help appreciated

Hi barri - Do you have access to the MBUSA epc? It should show those parts if they are correct for your car.

The rear suspension of the W114/W115 was the pattern for the W123, W116, W126 and R107 rear suspensions.

Typical was the stamped steel trailing arm which mounted to the subframe and held the rear wheel bearing and the brake.

There were several w126 models that discarded the stamped steel trailing arm for a cast or forged magnesium unit, the 500SEL and 560SEL are two cars I've seen so equipped.

Your second picture looks like it might have one of these cast arms in place of the expected stamped steel.

Jim

thanks graham - checked the epc but the style is not shown for any of the 107 models either USA or ROW and without knowing what to look for i couldn't search further - certainly not the one shown for its vin anyway.

Thanks jim I will load up the EPC and check for a 126 trailing arm rear suspension and see what comes up and if I can match it to anything I see on mine

cheers
barri

just checked on epc and it seems to be the 126 560sel rear axle assembly - for those who know the axle - would it be possible to transplant that into a 107 frame?
